How to Etiquette in Poker

Poker players can establish a special fund called the kitty. The kitty is created by cutting a low-denomination chip from every pot that receives more than one raise. The kitty belongs to all players equally, and is used to purchase new decks of cards, food, and other necessities. Once the kitty is full, it is divided among players who are still in the game. Players who leave Poker before the game ends do not have any rights to the kitty.

Angle shooting is a form of poor poker etiquette

What is angle shooting? Basically, it is acting out of position with the intention of misleading your opponent. While the actual action is often innocent enough, it is still a form of poor poker etiquette. An angle shooter can even mislead his opponent by making a small motion, which causes him to mistakenly assume you are checking. This can cause you to be caught and the situation can escalate quickly.

You are not obliged to answer questions about your poker stack

While the dealer has no legal obligation to count the number of chips in a player’s poker stack, you should always respond in the appropriate manner. In most cases, responding with an approximate number is fine. If you are asked to count the number of chips in a player’s poker stack, consider the intent of the person asking. A dealer will not want to waste his time by pointing out a player’s mistakes.

You are not splitting openers if you retain openers

In poker, you are not splitting openers if you keep them, even if your opponent has a higher hand. You must announce that you are discarding cards before you reveal your hands. You must also keep the cards separately. Normally, splitting openers is allowed when you have a pair of naturals and a pair of wilds. However, in some situations, you can still choose to retain them if you have a better hand.

You must make a contribution to the pot

Depending on the type of poker game you are playing, you may have to make a contribution to the pot. All poker variants have betting intervals and each player has the privilege and obligation to make the first bet. When a player makes a bet, they must add their chips to the pot, equal to the total contribution made by all players before them. This is called active playing.
